S.A.F.E. Swim is the program we use at The School of Yaya’s Fishes. S.A.F.E. Swim is a basic infant/child survival training course combined with swimming fundamentals.

S.A.F.E. Swim I

S.A.F.E. Swim I is designed for children of all ages, beginning at the “crawling stage”. In S.A.F.E. Swim I, children learn appropriate swimming postures, including swimming face down and then rotating onto their backs to a floating position. This allows the child to rest and breathe, then return to a face-down swim position. This sequence is repeated till the child reaches safety/water’s edge.

  • The main goal for infants is to learn to maintain float till help arrives.
  • Effective skill development is achieved through five (5) days a week for approximately 4 weeks, depending on the child’s previous training.
  • Once a child has successfully completed a swim-float-swim sequence the S.A.F.E. Swim Instructor will conduct a “clothes out,” which simulates an accidental fall into the water wearing winter clothes and shoes.
  • Once the child “graduates” S.A.F.E. Swim I, he/she is ready for maintenance (S.A.F.E Swim II) or progress on to stroke development achieved in S.A.F.E. Swim level III.

S.A.F.E. Swim II

The purpose of maintenance lessons is for children to retain and refine the valuable skills they have learned and to increase a child’s confidence gained in S.A.F.E Swim I. Maintenance lessons are held 1-3 times per week depending on desired skill achievement level.

S.A.F.E. Swim III

Stroke training and development at S.A.F.E. Swim III level is concentrated on increasing stroke skill including: Freestyle, Breaststroke, Butterfly, and Backstroke.
